The question most sellers ask is “Why do I have to pay a commission”. When I go out to a listing, I don’t go out to the listing to say “Well, I’m coming out here, I am showing you what your house is worth. I’m showing you what all the other houses are worth and what they have sold for in the past three to six month. I’m not doing this because I want to come out here and have coffee, no matter house much I love coffee. I’m doing this because you wanted to sell your house. You’re interested in selling, you really need to whatever situation has caused you get to this point, has made you make that decision. Totally and clearly that you need to sell the house. Now, when I come out there, I’m not coming out there because I want to work for free. I’m not in an industry that says I need to work for free. I would love to be compensated for anything that I do that requires compensation and frankly I think you do too.
That traffic that we sit in every morning? Those lengthy time frames we spend in our cars? It’s not because everybody that’s driving to work between 5AM and 9:30AM want to go to not be compensated, we go because we want to make a living. We go because we make a difference in what we are doing. Usually benefits someone and when a realtor goes out to sell a house, usually i would explain, you know, real estate agents and real estate brokers we don’t get paid until everyone has been satisfied. You leave with your keys and then even at that point our checks have yet been processed for us to be compensated. So we still wait, you know we’re very patient.
But we know what we do really sets a mark and a standard for everyone else because after you do everything else in your life, you still go home. Us realtors are the ones that make this happen. We put people in homes. We make them happy. We make a house a home. We make a home something of value when we put an interested buy in that house and they’ve renovated, they’ve become part of a community, they’ve become a family of a community and this is all because a real estate agent, a real estate professional took the time to do all that is required. Very diligent work. A lot of effort with title company, title agents, mortgage brokers, mortgage bankers and banks to make this process a dream for families. So at the end of the day, when you go home and you’re sitting in that house negotiating with a broker, remember you got to that point because of a broker, you got to that point because of a real estate professional.
You have the ability to feel so strong, to negotiate not wanting to pay for something that really requires a lot of payment. But sometimes I believe, you know, we deserve more. Right? But that is my personal opinion, it’s not something that every body will agree with but however, you cant ask a realtor to come and list your house for sale, advertise that house for as long as 2, 3, 4 months, or even 30 days if their really good at what to do and they know their market area and they know their pricing, that house can be sold by 30 days. Now when someone does that, do you really think it’s by chance or by luck? They know exactly what they’re doing. They’ve been doing this day in, day out and most times most realtors we work Sunday to Sunday and holidays. When everyone says “Oh, hey TGIFriday”, we don’t say TGIFriday. We’re just happy that there is a day because this is what we do. We do this all the time. This is what we love to do which why we do it seven days a week. So, yes, compensate those who are making a difference in your lives because they are doing a job very well done.
